Latest News ... (Updated April 9, 2009) New Sweat Girls shows for 2009 will be announced later this year ... but while you're waiting, check out what Sweat Girl Martie Sanders is up to!
The Me, Mom & Dad Show! Watch a short YouTube video preview (1 min 21 sec): Martie Sanders invites her parents, Carolyn (age 77) and Charlie (age 79) to dish it out with her on the 16th Street Stage in Berwyn! When this show premiered at Live Bait Theater's Fillet of Solo Festival last summer it was a festival hit and now it's being remounted.
In this intergenerational trip down memory lane, Sanders and parents reveal hilarious moments of parental imprinting, along with politics, history, and a powerful tap dance by Charlie that brings racial unity to 1967 Detroit . . . at least for a moment. Don't miss this "dynamic writer and polished performer" (Chicago Sun-Times) as she shares the limelight with her folks. UPDATE: Read the Critic's Choice in the Chicago Reader, which calls the show a "sweetly nostalgic autobiographical piece about growing up in Detroit during the racial unrest of the early 1970s." Read an interview with Martie from Suburban Life and a profile of the festival (including quotes from Martie) in the Pioneer Press. Showtimes: Tickets: $16 16th Street Theater For more info, visit the 16th Street Theater site. *** Thanks to everyone who came to our summer and fall shows for 2008!
